About the Dashboard

The Town of Superior's Sustainability Action Plan Dashboard is intended to increase transparency on the Town's progress towards goals established in the Sustainability Action Plan.

The Sustainability Action Plan was approved by the Town of Superior's Board in 2022. The actions in the plan, once implemented, will reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions, improve social equity, promote good stewardship of the environment, and create a stronger community.

Understanding the Dashboard

Within this dashboard, goals, actions, and key performance indicators are organized into the seven different focus areas identified in the Sustainability Action Plan.

The focus areas in the plan and in this dashboard include:

  • Climate
  • Energy
  • Zero Waste
  • Water
  • Air Quality
  • Transportation
  • Regeneration and Natural Environment

Within each focus area are goals, strategies, actions, and key performance indicators.

  • Goals - targeted end results from implemented strategies and actions
  • Strategies - initiatives in support of the goals of the focus area
  • Actions - programs, projects, partnerships, studies, policies, or steps that help achieve each strategy
  • Key Performance Indicators - key metrics that are used to measure progress towards the goals

Each action page has markers showing different elements of the action.

  • Progress - implementation stage of the action, including "Not yet begun," "In progress," "Completed," and "Continuous"
    • Completed and Continuous are end stage progress-markers. "Completed" means that the action is been fully implemented and no further action need take place. "Continuous" means that the action has been fully implemented and that the action will continue to take place in an ongoing manner.
  • Schedule - marks whether an action is being implemented on time or is late
  • Strategy - tags the overarching strategy to which the action contributes
  • Type - marks whether the action will be implemented internally within Town operations ("Internal") or throughout the entire community ("Community-wide")
  • Primary Co-Benefits - marks the benefits of the action outside of the explicit intention of the action
  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction Potential - indicates on a scale of 1-5 approximately how much an action could reduce GHG emissions in the context of the strategy it is part of. For the Zero Waste and Water focus areas, these markers are replaced with Waste Reduction Potential and Water Use Reduction Potential, respectively. On the action pages, the numbers below are represented by one to five shaded dots.
    • 1 = does not reduce
    • 2 = marginally reduces
    • 3 = moderately reduces
    • 4 = significantly reduces
    • 5 = extremely reduces
  • Cost - approximates the direct cost for the Town to implement the action. On the action pages, the dollar signs below are represented by one to three shaded dots.
    • $ = cost of action is nominal
    • $$ = cost of action is moderately expensive
    • $$$ = cost of action is extremely expensive

For each indicator, there is a graph representing the most recently available data. If the KPI has a related goal, the goal will be represented on the graph by a small green "x" in the goal year. Data sources are noted below the graph next to the word "References," and a data table can be expanded below the graph with the values corresponding to the graph. Additional notes about the data may be included below the references, as needed.

We have included a "Highlights" section of the dashboard which will house stories about impactful actions taken around the community.
