Description
In July 2022, the Town worked with Northern Water to complete audits at Children's Park, Little Sagamore Park, and Big Sagamore Park. These audits happened post-Marshall Fire and were designed to support the recovery process in a water-wise way. The Town also worked with Aqua Engineering to complete a full irrigation assessment and audit at Community Park in August of 2022.
New updated and more efficient irrigation systems and less turf was a focus of park re-builds at Big and Little Sagamore Parks and Children's Park. The Turf Reduction Grant helped to fund removal of a triangular turf area on the SE corner of the 88th round-a-bout, xeriscape and drip irrigation replaced spray irrigation with the added benefit of less over-spray onto sidewalks and roadways. In 2024 a large section of the Rock Creek Parkway median from the underpass near McCaslin to Indiana was transitioned to xeriscape removing all turf and spray irrigation and replacing with drought-tolerant plantings and drip irrigation.
