Official description
Description
The Town adopted the Green Building Program into its municipal code which lists requirements for new developments, significant remodels, or building restoration projects. One of the goals of this program is to reduce waste sent to the landfill and includes the following requirements:
- Construction waste recycling - an applicant for a building permit for construction of a new residential structure shall demonstrate that a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of construction waste is recycled. Waste diversion calculations and tracking spreadsheet forms must be provided to the Town at project completion to demonstrate that the minimum recycling requirements have been met. An applicant for an addition or remodel that is greater than five hundred (500) square feet is encouraged to divert as much construction waste as possible.
- Demolition management - an applicant proposing to demolish a residential structure shall demonstrate through a deconstruction plan that at least sixty-five percent (65%) of material by weight from deconstruction, including concrete and asphalt, will be diverted from landfills. Compliance with the deconstruction plan shall be submitted to the Town prior to final inspection.
