When living in a drought-prone state like Colorado, water conservation is everyone’s concern. The Town of Superior is committed to efforts that advance the water conservation goals outlined in the Sustainability Action Plan while creating more climate-resilient, sustainable public landscapes. Many of the projects the Town pursues provide additional benefits, such as increasing pollinator habitat, saving money, reducing maintenance costs, creating water-wise xeric demonstration gardens, limiting roadway damage, and more.
Residents can help meet their community's water conservation goals by using the resources the Town provides. The Water Rebate Program provides rebates to Superior property owners for select water-efficient fixtures and appliances, including rain barrels and drip irrigation. These rebates are applied directly to utility bills, helping residents conserve water and save money. Additionally, Town Partner Resource Central offers services, tools, and resources to eliminate guesswork in low-water landscaping, with dedicated staff ready to handle the heavy lifting.
With the help of Resource Central, Superior residents in 2025:
- Converted 11,000 square feet of lawn and installed 126 xeriscape gardens, saving an estimated 800,000 gallons of water over the garden’s lifetime
- Evaluated their sprinkler system efficiency and installed smart controllers, saving an estimated 110,000 gallons of water annually.
- 33 residents participated in the Town’s Water Rebate program, reducing thousands of gallons of water over the life of the new fixture.
In a single year, the individual actions of a handful of Superior residents will save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water. Superior continues to make measurable sustainability impacts thanks to our partners and our community!
